Do you need a referral to visit a podiatrist?
No, in general you do not need a referral to visit a podiatrist. There a two exceptions:
- Department of Veterans Affairs, gold card holders require a 'D904 referral' from your GP
- ‘Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plan’ Referral.
Clients with a chronic illness (e.g. Diabetes, Heart Condition, Arthritic conditions) may be entitled to medicare rebates. This referral is given by your GP and entitles you up to 5 visits per calendar year. The referral and how many visits is at the GP's discretion.
Medicare will reimburse you $52.95 towards your consultation fee.
